A few days ago, I was able to observe one of the most fascinating animals in our local nature - an ermine in its white winter coat. An animal that is so perfectly adapted to its environment and yet so rarely seen. And then this moment: it climbs into a hollow tree trunk, pauses and carefully peers out - very attentive, very focussed, always on the lookout for prey.
I can hardly put into words what it feels like to experience such an encounter through the lens. My heart was beating faster and I tried to be as quiet as possible so as not to disturb this magical moment. The stoat's gaze - so curious, so intelligent - immediately mesmerised me. In those seconds, all that mattered was this one moment, this one creature perfectly embedded in its environment.
It is these experiences that show me why I love nature photography so much. It's not always about the perfect photo - it's about being close to nature, experiencing it, feeling it. And when I'm lucky enough to be able to capture such rare scenes, it's simply priceless.
