A butterfly on a butterfly bush – a moment of pause by Acharya Fotografie

An orange Emperor moth sits on a lush, violet-flowered panicle of buddleia. With its wings half-open, it reveals its delicate pattern of black dots and lines. The rich orange of its wings glows in the sunlight. Its delicate legs cling to the countless tiny individual flowers, whilst its long proboscis plunges deep into the blooms.

The panicle of flowers runs diagonally across the image, lending the composition a sense of dynamism. Its rich shades of violet form a harmonious contrast to the warm orange of the butterfly. At the same time, the countless tiny flowers create a delicate texture that frames the butterfly without detracting from it.

The background dissolves into soft shades of green. Spots of light and gentle blurring make the butterfly appear to float almost freely in space. Nothing distracts from the actual subject – the gaze rests entirely on this brief moment in which humankind and nature meet.

The sunlight makes the wings glow and highlights their delicate veins. For a moment, time seems to stand still, although everyone knows how fleeting this visit is. The very next moment, the butterfly could already be flying away again.
