On 2 February 1991, when he was still Cardinal Ratzinger, Pope Benedict XVI commissioned Maleen Stacheder to paint a picture for him personally. He himself chose the theme: "A bouquet of wild flowers in the window, in the light of the rising morning sun".
Special painting technique:
In recent years, Maleen Stacheder has developed a very special painting technique: a small part of the painting consists of photomontage, while another part consists of relief-like, gilded columns and ornaments. The use of different colours than in the past results in a luminous colour scheme. The majority of the picture consists of imaginative painting using the technique of the Old Masters, which has been tried and tested over 40 years and was also developed by herself.
Maleen paints most of these pictures using the magnifying glass of her great-uncle, who was never allowed to become a painter.
Maleen usually paints on canvas, in her preferred format of 30cm x 30cm.
