Loekie Grijspaardt was born in Scheveningen (1958) and feels very much at home in The Hague. As a child, she started drawing mandelas. With the advent of felt-tip pens in the early 1960s, her father had to hide them because they were unaffordable at the time. The intense colours were the beginning of her inspiration. While her children were growing up, there was little time for creativity. She was able to express herself in the frame-making shop which she started at a young age together with her husband Henk in The Hague. After the children left home at the end of last millennium, the easel was put back in the studio to put her expressive ideas on canvas. Acrylic paint and palette knives ensure a cheerful result. She has never had any training, but has mastered this special technique herself. Loekie: "Let the material do the work. Loekie is known as a very cheerful and happy type, which is reflected in her work. She makes work that makes you happy! Loekie: "No art to think about, no deep message, but nice and cheerful and above all light-hearted art. With both feet on the ground, but with a touch of humour".
