the centuries-old Sacred Oak of Den Hout. It is said to be possibly the oldest oak tree in the Netherlands. A plaque near the oak tree states an estimated age of 750 years. The tree became hollow due to a lightning strike. As a result, life sap can only get to the crown and leaves on one side. The dark hollow side of the tree cannot be seen in the photo. But all the better the side where the crooked old thing is at its most beautiful and it is in full swing letting the summer sun illuminate its young oak leaves....
