Habana Vieja is the oldest district, full of historical sites. It seems as if time has stood still here. Centro Habana is a district with buildings from different eras in various architectural styles. Around 1890 the construction of the district started, but it was only finished around 1940. The French city architect Forestier, who designed a large part of the district, completed the district. The third district is Vedado. Vedado means 'forbidden'; the district got this name because it was not allowed to build on this spot in the 16th century. It is the main district with wide avenues, large houses and lots of light. Most political buildings are there and there are many shops, cinemas and offices, but it also seems an old district by the old houses with large gardens.
