The banteng (Bos javanicus) is a wild cow from the forests of Southeast Asia. The Balirund is a domesticated form of this species. Wild Balir cattle live in the Northern Territory of Australia. Although bantengs used to be thought to be closely related to the gaur, nowadays they are thought to be more closely related to the house cattle. They can easily cross with domestic cattle, and get fertile offspring.
