Zerbst Castle in the town of Zerbst in Saxony-Anhalt was the residential castle of the Princes of Anhalt-Zerbst. It was severely damaged in the Second World War and subsequently largely demolished. Since 2005, the Förderverein Schloss Zerbst has taken measures to restore the still standing east wing of this important baroque building.
Catherine II, called Catherine the Great was empress] of Russia from 9 July 1762. She is the only ruler to have been given the epithet the Great in historiography. She was a daughter of Prince Christian August of Anhalt-Zerbst
