Zebras in the Savannah was taken as a photo on safari in the Okavango Delta. As very social animals, zebras often live in herds in which they form a strong community. Within these herds, there are complex social structures characterised by rankings and close bonds between the animals. The black and white stripes of zebras serve not only aesthetic purposes, but also as camouflage. In the dense grass of the savannah, the stripes can help to confuse predators and create a kind of optical illusion. Forming groups not only provides zebras with social protection, but also an effective defence against predators. The close arrangement of animals allows them to defend themselves together against possible threats. Zebras are excellent migrators and often travel long distances in search of food and water. Their nomadic behaviour is reflected in the stunning landscapes captured in my canvas paintings from Africa.
