Young northern hawk-owls (Surnia ulula) are flightless during the first months of their life. They compensate for that by being great climbers.
This owl was not scared at all, it just observed me attentively, probably aware that it could quickly climb up higher. Luckily I did not have to come too close using a telephoto lens, also resulting in a strong bokeh.
This is one of the images I brought home from my work as a photographer in Abisko national park in northern Sweden. It also took fourth place in the Wikimedia photo contest Wiki Loves Earth 2024 in Sweden.
