Original is a painting in acrylic on canvas.
After 429 years, Willem Barentsz's ship is back in Amsterdam.
I made this painting for Sail 2025.
The archaeological reconstruction of the ship was built entirely by volunteers from the keel laying in 2010.
Its berth is Harlingen.
During Sail, the ship attracted a lot of interest and visitors at a wonderful event.
In July 2026, Harlingen will host the Tall Ships Races, and the Witte Swaen can also be visited.
In the background, you can see Amsterdam as it looked around 1596. On the left, for example, you see the Schreierstoren.
