Stylishly framed by the brightly lit town hall from 1819, the waterworks from 1602 and the time-honoured Hanseatic gabled houses, the traditional "Wismar Christmas Market" takes place every year on Wismar's historic market square. With an area of around 10,000 square metres, Wismar's market square is one of the largest in Germany. It is the largest market square in northern Germany. The people of Wismar and their guests can get in the mood for the festive season and enjoy the most contemplative time of the year with a glass of mulled wine, eggnog, hot chocolate and many other Christmas delicacies. Visitors can expect maritime wooden stalls selling candles, toys, jewellery, Swedish goods, wooden art from the Ore Mountains and much more. And of course there are several carousels for young and old and a small Ferris wheel with heated cabins. There is something for everyone.
