White and blue dominate this landscape. A thick layer of snow lies on the hills surrounding the shallow river. Also the mountain in the background, an Alp, is covered with snow.
The Engadine (Garden of the Inn) is one of the deepest mountain valleys (that of the river Inn) of the Alps. It is located in the Swiss canton Graubünden. It can be divided into Upper Engadine and Lower Engadine. The Engadine goes down into the Austrian Oberinntal.

Peder Mørk Mønsted (Balle Mølle near Grenå, Denmark, 10 December 1859-20 June 1941) was a Danish realist painter. He is best known for his landscape paintings in a style of realism. His favourite motifs are snowy winter landscapes, still water and forests.
At a young age he began to take painting lessons at the art academy in Aarhus. From 1875 to 1879 he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
