Nothing beats a winter morning sunrise at the High Fens in Belgium. Before dawn, I set out towards Belgium to capture the snow that had fallen in recent days. The cool tones of the blue sky and the pastel colors of the sky add an extra cool atmosphere to the photo.
The High Fens in Belgium have a rich history dating back to prehistoric times. Throughout the centuries, they were used as hunting grounds and later as suppliers of wood for the surrounding villages. During the Middle Ages, small communities emerged around the fens, gradually growing into flourishing settlements. In the 18th and 19th centuries, parts of the High Fens were exploited for peat extraction, which was an important source of fuel. Today, the High Fens are a protected natural area and a popular destination for nature lovers and hikers.
