Handmade watercolor painting of the Zaanse Schans in autumn.
The windmills and the water in this painting are painted in watercolor using both wet-on-dry and wet-on-wet techniques on high-fiber watercolor paper. The cloudy sky is painted with thinned acrylic paint.
The painting is a reproduction of one of my own photographs taken at this location.
The painting has a diagonal composition with strong perspective, where both the Zaanse windmills and the Dutch cloudy sky play a prominent role.
The three windmills depicted in this painting are the well-known ones:
- Sawmill De Gekroonde Poelenburg.
- Paintmill De Kat.
- Oilmill De Zoeker.
The dynamic cloudy sky, the turbulent water, and the brown and bare trees in the background subtly evoke the windy Dutch autumn weather with its large rain clouds drifting quickly by.
Creation.
This painting was a long-term project that I worked on for over a year and a half.
For this project, I took my time to recreate the details of the windmills completely realistically and paint them in my own style.
With the creation of this work, I wanted to showcase my passion for graphic design and my expertise in painting, as well as convey a message that creating artisanal paintings is perfectly acceptable.
A statement against AI (Artificial Intelligence).
For me, this work is also a kind of statement against the use of AI in the world of painting and illustration. Because we currently live in a world where everything has to be as fast as possible and people expect quick results. And AI (Artificial Intelligence) is currently playing a major role, including in the world of wall decoration.
AI can be used as a tool, but I personally find it saddening to see that so many "so-called paintings" offered today are created entirely with AI.
This method has nothing to do with creative painting. But strangely enough, these AI-generated images are being offered as paintings. Unfortunately, this is currently happening on a massive scale, causing artisanal paintings to be overshadowed by rapid AI-generated mass production.
My paintings are proudly 100% handmade, so 0% Ai.
