Exmoor ponies are originally native to the southwest of England. They grow up to 1.30 m tall and reach a weight of up to 370 kg. Their light to dark brown coat is characteristically complemented by the mealmouth, a light coloring around the mouth area. These graceful ponies are exceptionally docile and friendly animals that are ideal for use in landscape maintenance projects. The average life expectancy of the animals is 27 years.
The large-scale nature conservation project was funded to the tune of 70 % by the Federal Republic of Germany and 20 % by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The participating municipalities of Augustdorf, Detmold, Lage and Oerlinghausen, the district of Lippe and the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation contributed 10 %.
