I took this photo of a wicker basket of coconuts on Lamu Island. This island lies off the coast of Kenya in the Indian Ocean. For hundreds of years Lamu was the best kept Swahili secret in East Africa. Over the centuries, the island was inhabited by Asians, Persians, Indians, Europeans and Kenyans, giving the island a unique charm and mix of cultures. None of this can be seen from the basket of coconuts but it might still be nice to know some of the background to this photo.
