White houses and colourful flowers by Leopold Brix

Alleyway with whitewashed old houses and colourful flowers in the small town of Alberobello in the Apulia region of Italy. The image shows a charming and inviting alleyway flanked by two rows of whitewashed houses with distinctive conical roofs, typical of Alberobello's famous trulli in Italy. The buildings feature simple black window frames and small square or rectangular openings that may serve as windows or ventilation grilles. The path between the houses is made of roughly hewn stones, some of which are missing, revealing the grey concrete underneath. It draws the eye down the alleyway to the distant open end under a clear blue sky with a few thin clouds.

On both sides of the path are numerous terracotta pots overflowing with a variety of bright flowers, including red geraniums, pink and purple blooms, white flowers, and various green plants. There are also some potted plants with dark green leaves. The combination of colourful flowers against the stark white walls creates a striking visual contrast and adds to the beauty of the scene.

The sunlight falls along the path, casting long shadows to the left, suggesting that the photo was taken in the late morning when the sun is high but not directly overhead. The atmosphere evokes a sense of peace and tranquillity characteristic of a small, quiet town on a warm day.
