About the artwork

On the left the old town hall at De Plaats. In the middle the former hotel-restaurant 'Ridder St. Joris', now Bar-Brasserie Joris. To the right the terrace of Bar-brasserie Joris.
The 'Ridder St. Joris' building dates from 1880. It is built in neoclassical style. The type of hotel-restaurant in neoclassical style with the applied façade layout with the various details were among other reasons for giving this building the status of a municipal monument. The symmetrical facade is plastered and has five bays, with sliding windows. The entrance is in the middle engraving. There is a blind niche above the entrance. The middle engraving is marked by slides with fields and continues above the guttering list in a roof house with slides, bell window and frame. The entrance is now located in the adjacent building, as a result of which the entrance in the middle of the building is no longer used. The façade is also articulated horizontally by means of different bands and is closed with a profiled gutter molding. The side wall is provided with transverse bands as are also applied to the front wall.
The photo is made in black and white, which gives it an artistic timeless look. Details are beautifully and correctly emphasized. Due to the lack of color, this can no longer cause distraction. Composition, shapes, lines, fine gray nuances, structures and contrast ensure that the subject is given a much more prominent place in the image.
