These wooden poles in the water are remnants of they former Zuiderzee and are a beautifully weathered and abstract element on the IJsselmeer coast of Friesland. It is a well-known spot among many photographers and every time it is a surprise under what conditions you can photograph.
The photo was taken at sunset but the clouds during a stormy day prevented colour from appearing on the horizon. I used a long-exposure photography technique that gives the clouds a huge dynamic effect. The water is given a timeless stillness by this 'long exposure' while the contrasts of the weathered posts stand out against the mystical water surface.
