Vintage metal doorknob with hearts on wood

by Lisette Rijkers

An unusual metal object is seen here in this picture. The outer edge of the dark metal shape is a circle of hearts linked together.
The photo was taken from a utilitarian object. Ordinary everyday objects are regularly a source of inspiration for me. Turning such an object into a beautiful work of art with my camera is particularly challenging.
This circle of hearts is a doorknob that was attached to an old cupboard. The old cupboard was so worn that it was no longer usable, but I liked the doorknobs so much that I had to keep and cherish them.
These door knobs are definitely older than 1955. Due to oxidation of the metal and frequent use, the doorknob has deteriorated in a few places. Rust spots and minor damage betray the age of this beautiful metal object and enhance its charm.
To emphasise the antiquity of this beautiful metal object, I placed the doorknob on a wooden surface. A wooden wall from which the paint is already starting to come off.
The warm sunlight shining low over the wood beautifully highlights this vintage metal artwork from the side, creating a soft shadow on the wood.
The many hearts and the old wood make this artwork a romantic and rustic decoration for your wall.
