View of Waimea Canyon, Hawaii.
The Grand Canyon of the Pacific, that's how Waimea Canyon is also called, and rightly so.
The canyon is 16 km long and 910 m deep.
Located on the island of Kauai. There are several paid or unpaid viewpoints, where the car can be parked.
Waimea is Hawaiian for "reddish water", indicating the erosion of the red earth in the canyon. The canyon was eroded by the Waimea River. Mount Waiʻaleʻale is one of the wettest places on earth.
A breathtaking view of the gorge. The great waterfall can often be seen.
Kauai was once formed, 5 million years ago, by the eruption of the volcano.
