I wanted to take this photo series for a long time, sunrise in Domburg overlooking the Manteling. As a native of Domburg, I don't come to 't village' very often anymore. Too busy, too restless, too much. A morning walk during sunrise is something else. Only one other Domburger I came across. I could quietly do my thing.
It turned out to be a long morning walk. This image shows the dune path stretching from Domburg to Oostkapelle and beyond. This is nature reserve 'De Manteling'. You can see in the landscape how the dunes originate and how they form. Deciduous trees grow here, so close to the coast it is unique. You also see many leaning oak trees here, a result of the south-westerly wind that usually blows here.
The beach is visible as far as Vrouwenpolder and you can walk that far. Whereas the beach is relatively narrow in Domburg, it gets wider towards Oostkapelle and Vrouwenpolder. Near Vrouwenpolder is Oranjezon, perhaps just visible in this photo. On the right, imagine Kasteel Westhove, which dates from the 13th century.
Continuing along the path, you see ponies's, rabbits, birds, bunkers. This part of Walcheren was part of the Atlantic Wall during World War II. There are still bunkers and several paths are made of bunker remains. It is a unique area and so it is.
