About ‘Venice: Houses reflected in a canal’ by Götz Gringmuth-Dallmer Photography

An afternoon in Venice. Away from the well-trodden paths between Venezia Santa Lucia railway station, the Rialto Bridge and St Mark’s Square – known as Piazza San Marco – there are many small canals where visitors can find a little peace and quiet, even when the lagoon city is, once again, completely overrun with tourists. A gondola is moored at a rather modest palazzo; the houses lining the canal are reflected in the water, whilst the deep blue of the spring sky serves to enhance the contrast in this black-and-white photograph.

For me, the city’s charm is expressed in yet another way in this black-and-white photograph.

Anyone who has ever been to Venice is unlikely to be able to resist the city’s magic, even if you often have to venture to the outskirts to find a quiet spot or two. Whatever the season, Venice is and always will be a place of longing for people from all over the world, even if the Venetians like to complain that their city is so overcrowded.
