About "Venetian pillars in black and white"

by Stella Ammerlaan

About the artwork

In the black-and-white photograph, a row of Venetian stone pillars stand majestically, each intricately carved with details that exude the elegance of old-fashioned craftsmanship. The pillars are solid and slightly weathered, their surfaces textured with fine cracks and weathering. At the bottom of each pillar, lion heads protrude in relief, their expressions noble and fierce, symbolic of Venice's historical power.

Above the pillars, delicate floral motifs are carved into the stone, creating a graceful contrast. The flowers appear soft and flowing, a timeless beauty set against the stern lions. The pillars support a stone building made up of a variety of different rocks. The monochrome tones emphasise the shadows, deepening the contrasts and textures, giving the scene a timeless, almost ethereal quality.
