Usedom Island – Seaside resort architecture in Heringsdorf by Thomas Bugdoll

*** Please note: Genuine photography – not AI! *** This photograph shows a typical example of seaside resort architecture on the island of Usedom on the Baltic Sea. The meticulously restored Wilhelminian-style villas are located in the centre of the seaside resort of Heringsdorf, just a few steps from the promenade and the pier. The promenade connects Heringsdorf with two other seaside resorts, collectively known as ‘ "Kaiserbäder" ’ (The Three Sisters). These are the seaside resorts of Ahlbeck and Bansin. Over time, the neighbouring seaside resorts of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin grew so closely together that in the 20th century they were also referred to as ‘Die drei Schwestern’ (The Three Sisters). They are connected to Świnoujście on the Polish side via a twelve-kilometre-long beach promenade. It was in the Baltic resort of Heringsdorf that seaside tourism on Usedom began. In 1825, the first guesthouse was opened and by the end of the century, the former fishing colony had developed into the “Nice of the Baltic Sea”. Even today, Heringsdorf remains one of the most popular holiday resorts on the Baltic Sea.

Until recently, the Heringsdorf pier on the Baltic Sea island of Usedom was the longest pier in Germany, measuring 508 metres in length.
