The Grumman HU-16 Albatross is an amphibious aircraft capable of landing on both water and a runway. The aircraft was an improved version of the Grumman G-73 Mallard and was built by Grumman from 1949 to 1961. A total of 466 were built. Most of the aircraft were used by the U.S. Air Force for search and rescue operations. They were widely used during the Korean War and in the Vietnam War. The US Navy used the aircraft for the same tasks.
