Two elephants heading into the bush, Tanzania by Dante van Rijn

Two elephants walk side by side up a wooded hill, deep in the Tanzanian bush. They move away from the camera, their trunks hanging loose, their ears half-erect. The undergrowth reaches up to their bellies and the surrounding trees frame the scene like a natural window. Branches hang down into the frame from above, giving the viewer the feeling of secretly watching from the shadows.

There is energy in this image. It is not a quiet moment of grazing; the animals are on the move, heading somewhere. The elephant on the left has swung its trunk sideways, as if it smells or hears something in the undergrowth. It is a snapshot of wild animals in their own world, unaware of the camera. This image was taken during a morning drive through Tarangire National Park. Elephants are everywhere here, but a moment like this – two animals moving together, framed by the vegetation – is a once-in-a-lifetime capture. That is what makes wildlife photography so fascinating to me: patience, and then suddenly, exactly the right moment. In an interior, this piece brings energy and adventure. The green and earthy tones suit a natural interior, but the dynamism in the image makes it striking enough for a more modern space too. An image for people who love freedom, nature and untamed places.
