About ‘Mother and calf on the savannah’ by Dante van Rijn

A female elephant walks through the tall grass of the Tanzanian savannah with her newborn calf. They are walking away from the camera, towards the acacia trees on the horizon. The little calf walks right beside her, almost disappearing into the grass that reaches up to its belly. Above them hangs a cloudy sky that keeps the light soft and even. What makes this image so special is the composition of the backs. You see no faces, no eye contact. Just two animals walking together towards somewhere, the big one and the small one, the mother and her calf.

There is something universal about that image, something you recognise regardless of the fact that they are elephants. This moment took place in Tarangire National Park, one of the most beautiful areas in Tanzania for elephant spotting. There was no spectacular event, no danger, no action. Just these two quietly going their own way. It is precisely that ordinary moment that moved me and that I wanted to capture.In an interior setting, this is a warm and inviting image. The green and earthy tones suit a natural or Scandinavian interior. It is an image that appeals to people who love animals, family, nature, or Africa. It evokes a sense of connection and protection.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
