About the artwork

With a length of 918 metres, the Magdeburg / Hohenwarthe trough bridge is the world's longest canal bridge and Europe's largest steel structure. The centrepiece of the Magdeburg waterway junction carries the Mittelland Canal over the Elbe.

The Magdeburg trough bridge was built in 1938 to connect the Elbe-Havel Canal with the Mittelland Canal, on which ships had been able to travel to the Rothensee ship lift since 1938. As the entire industry was converted to war-related production in 1942, there were no more resources available for civilian projects such as the Magdeburg waterway intersection. Construction work was cancelled. The abutments of the Elbe bridge, the pier foundations and four arches of the foreland bridge now stood as ruins in the Elbe or on the Elbe meadows until 1996.

After German reunification in 1993, the German Bundestag adopted the transport route plan with the "German Unity Transport Project No. 17 - Magdeburg Waterway Intersection and Upgrading of the Mittelland Canal". In 1996, the ruins from the 1940s were blown up and removed. After 5 years of construction, the Magdeburg trough bridge was inaugurated on 10 October 2003.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
