Three spirals, each with 2 arms and 3 perpendicular arms, come together in the middle super spiral with 6 and 9 arms. Each spiral arm has 2 paths that have the intention to walk back and forth. The paths are made of so-called band models of hyperbolic geometry images. The paths run over each other and underneath each other to create a wickerwork. The spiral center looks dark, but becomes lighter the closer you get to it.
For math enthusiasts, the hyperbolic geometry of the toucan tessellation has triangles of 60, 60, 36 degrees, while the parrot tessellation has triangles of 60, 45, 30 degrees. The dark spots contain parts of a belt model of butterflies, of which the tessellation has triangles of 60, 45, 30 degrees.
My training as a mathematician and my experience as a software programmer are the basic elements for designing my works of art. Since my retirement in 2019 I have started creating digital art with a mathematical slant. The works of M.C. Escher are a source of inspiration. Thanks to programs.. Read more…
