Tree near Deventer with a formation of geese by SR Blaauw

An imposing solitary tree forms the centrepiece of this image. Its powerful branches stand out as a delicate network against a spectacular evening sky, in which soft shades of pink, purple and deep blue blend seamlessly into one another. Just above the crown, a small flock of geese flies through the last light of day – a detail that instantly adds life and movement to the tranquil scene.

This work came about at a moment when everything came together: the fading daylight, the colourful sky and birds passing by at just the right moment. It is precisely that combination that makes the image special to me. The tree symbolises steadfastness and timelessness, whilst the geese remind us of change, freedom and the constant movement of nature.

Subtle elements are visible in the background, lending the landscape extra character. The outlines of buildings and a striking church tower show how nature and culture have coexisted here for centuries. Yet all attention remains focused on the majestic tree and the birds, which lend the scene an almost poetic quality.

The cool and warm colours create a calm, dreamy atmosphere. As a result, this piece is perfectly suited to an interior where space, a connection with nature and a sense of freedom take centre stage. It invites you to pause for a moment and drift off into a dream of an evening when, for a moment, the world seems to be in perfect balance.
