Scottish Highland – Tranquillity in the infinite

by SR Blaauw

In this photograph, you can see a Scottish Highland cow moving calmly across a green field, at the edge of a dense wood. The animal is captured from the side, bathed in warm, low sunlight that makes its reddish-brown coat glow intensely. The long hairs shimmer in golden hues and form a beautiful contrast with the dark tree trunks in the background. In the foreground, fresh green plants and splashes of yellow flowers create a lively, almost summery feel. The interplay of light and shadow lends the image depth and adds to its overall atmosphere.

The inspiration for this work came during a walk at a quiet moment towards the end of the day. The warm light was just breaking through the trees and fell precisely on the Highland cow, as if the animal were briefly in the spotlight. I wanted to capture that fleeting, perfect moment.

The atmosphere is warm, peaceful and almost magical. The image evokes a sense of tranquillity and harmony, in which animal and nature are in perfect balance. In an interior, this photograph brings warmth and vibrancy. The combination of rich colours and natural light makes the piece particularly well-suited to spaces where atmosphere and tranquillity come together, and it appeals directly to lovers of nature and animals.
