Traditional fishing village in Phu Quoc

by Frank Photos

This photograph highlights an authentic scene from the fishing village of Ham Ninh, on the island of Phu Quoc in Vietnam. The modest houses on stilts, built of wood, bricks and corrugated iron, bear witness to a way of life closely linked to the water and the tides. Raised above the level of the canal, they protect the dwellings while facilitating direct access to the boats. In the foreground, a small traditional boat, calmly moored, reflects the importance of small-scale fishing in the local economy. The weathered colours of the boat and buildings reflect the passage of time and everyday use, far removed from modern tourist areas. The dense vegetation surrounding the dwellings reinforces the tropical atmosphere and gives a feeling of freshness and tranquillity. The dark, calm water acts like a mirror, amplifying the feeling of slowness and simplicity. Ham Ninh offers a striking contrast with the tourist complexes of Phu Quoc, revealing a more humble and sincere side of the island. This scene captures a moment of ordinary life, imbued with silence and authenticity, where the relationship between man, habitat and nature remains at the heart of everyday life.
