San Gimignano is a medieval walled town in the Italian region of Tuscany. The medieval town is walled and known for its tall towers.
Through the towers, families tried to show how wealthy they were. As a result, the towers grew higher and higher. San Gimignano's historic centre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Tuscany, which also makes it one of the busiest.
This image shows three of the towers, photographed from below against a clear blue sky.
