According to the myth, the child Heracles was brought to Hera by his half-sister Athena, who later played an important role as goddess of protection. Hera cared for Heracles out of pity, but he sucked so strongly that he caused Hera pain and she pushed him away. Her milk sprayed across the sky and there formed the Milky Way. With divine milk Heracles acquired supernatural powers.
As a goddess the girl stands completely naked in the middle of the artwork with her hips, belly torso and breasts. Out of her both right and left tits the mother's milk sprays.
Around it fly angels and birds and a couple of peacocks. One angel has an arrow attached and another angel has an arch.
