The church is unique in its construction. It is modelled on the architectural style of the Norwegian stave churches and yet built in a style of its own that does not exist anywhere else. There are only two similar stave churches in Germany, one of which is in Hahnenklee/Harz. The church stood remotely in the forest, in the immediate vicinity of the Lost Place Albrechtshaus. There, the church was often the victim of vandalism. The monument could only be preserved by moving it to a protected location. For this purpose, the town of Oberharz am Brocken provided a plot of land in the Stiege district. The church was completely restored in the course of its relocation to the new site.
