A Rare Glimpse into the Cellar by Josko Gravner

Hidden away in the heart of Friuli, Italy, is the wine cellar of Josko Gravner, a true pioneer of orange wine. No traditional wooden barrels here, but large earthenware amphorae, partly buried in the ground. This centuries-old winemaking technique, which originated in Georgia, ensures slow, natural fermentation and a unique interaction between the wine and the earth. The result? A deeply complex wine with a rich texture and characteristic amber colour.
Gravner is known worldwide for his uncompromising craftsmanship and his pure, unfiltered approach to winemaking. His wines are a reflection of time, nature and tradition - and as elusive as the man himself. Josko is not an everyman's friend; without the right connections, the door to his cellar remains closed. Only a few get the chance to enter this sacred ground of winemaking, let alone take photos's.
Being allowed to photograph here was a special honour. This shot captures not only the physical space of Gravner's cellar, but also the soul of his work: a place where time plays no role and wine reveals its true essence. A rare moment, captured in images.
