The setting looks very idyllic, although the story that goes with it is a lot less romantic. The chapel is also known as the Galgekapelletje (Gallows Chapel), referring to the gallows that used to be erected on this hilltop nearby. It was the custom to place the gallows in a remote location outside the village centre. The chapel and the lime tree (symbol of goodness) had to remind the passer-by to follow the good path of life.
