About ‘The shadows advance’ by Cecile Quenum

A path, traced in the low light, divided between two edges.
But this is no simple forest scene: this photograph is the result of a direct superimposition during the shooting. Two times, two angles, two breaths of nature superimposed in a single moment.
The shadows of the trees stretch out like outstretched fingers, drawing moving, almost living lines on the ground. You are not quite sure whether you are looking at a real place or a memory.
The image was captured during a solitary walk, in the slowness that allows the eye to glide along, to capture the invisible.
The black and white intensifies the contrasts, deepens the furrows of light and erases landmarks. The journey becomes a mental one. It speaks of crossing, of decisions, of inner journeys back and forth.
In an interior, this work acts as a discreet mirror. It touches those who are looking for calm in ambiguity, a direction in the in-between.

I'm a Belgian-Beninese photographer who captures the relationship between the body, light and presence. I work alone on my walks, or while observing my quoitiden, but also in collaboration with models, make-up artists and other artists.

My aim is to capture the things that usually escape the eye - a silence, a shiver, a spark, a beauty, a light created or fragile. Each photograph bears witness to an emotion or a suspended moment.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
