Is it now a department store, or is it a greenhouse after all? Even in the West Country, we haven't really definitively decided. I myself like greenhouse the most. Greenhouse construction is an existing word and a household name, while I have never heard of department store construction. Well, all that aside. This picture gives an impression of the type of greenhouse that was in use in the 1960s and 1970s. Low, easy operation of the vents, often not heated or easily heated. I took this photo, in 2007, on the grounds of the Proefstation in Naaldwijk. The area had been rezoned and much had to make way for this new use. Schools, housing estates, were going to fill the area.
This dilapidated greenhouse, with its broken windows, gives a good impression of that which was. That which many Westlanders will remember. Those who have never seen it can use this photo to catch up with someone who does have knowledge of that time. The past was not always better, but the past was different from the present. Nice to cherish the memories. A photo, a story, it all helps.
