A male hen harrier glides low and gracefully above a vast field. Its wings are long and narrow, each beat controlled and purposeful. It seems effortless, but behind the fluid movement is a sharp plan: hunting.
He keeps his head low, eyes focused on the ground. Not a blade of grass escapes his attention. Every twitch, every movement in the field could indicate a mouse or other small animal.
The way he flies is matter-of-fact and impressive at the same time. No superfluous energy, no rush. Everything is geared towards efficiency. His light, silver-grey feathers make him stand out, but his hunting style remains sleek and calculated.
For a moment he hangs still in the air, then gently sways to the side and dives briefly, but to no avail. Unperturbed, he resumes his flight, again in full control.
Above the field, he thus remains a ruler in motion: majestic, determined and fully in the service of his goal.
