The 'little harbour of Sil' near De Cocksdorp owes its name to Sil Boon who was for years the skipper of De Vriendschap between Texel and Vlieland.
In 1994 he started building the small harbour in the outflow of the pumping station of De Cocksdorp. In doing so, he gave shape to the old little harbour that had been there until 1966, but at that time it disappeared at the dike reinforcement that was in place at the time.
Sil gave himself - according to an article in the newspaper of 12 April 1994 - one month to moor the harbour, after which he had to sail again with De Vriendschap (The Friendship).
