As soon as darkness falls, you can see the beams of light from the striking, red and white lighthouse streaking across the landscape all over Ameland.
Made of mighty cast iron, but rising elegantly above the dune tops, it has been a beacon for shipping since 1881. Until 2005, lighthouse keepers stood watch, including lighthouse keeper Dries van der Laag. Nowadays
visitors may climb up the more than 55 metres to enjoy the fantastic view!
