Built on top of a mound, the Magnus church on Ameland is a real eye-catcher in Hollum. The beautiful house of prayer arose in the 17th century on the foundations of no less than two predecessors.
When there was no Wadden Sea dike, let alone the word sand nourishment, the people of Hollum used it to keep their feet dry when the water flowed into the villages. The church still hosts regular Sunday services.
