About the artwork
You won't find a more reddish work of art in my collection than this one. A digital painting of a red poppy on a red background.
This work was inspired by a photo I took during a walk at a summer sunset in a field filled with poppies. The light of the sun shone so beautifully on one of the poppies that I wanted to capture that moment. In the end, the photo was considerably disappointing. But the image I had in mind kept haunting me.
So I used that picture as the basis for this work of art. I cut out the flower and replaced the background with a red color. Then I enhanced the light of the sun shining through the petal and finally began to edit the photo with various digital painting techniques. The end result is a rugged expression of delicate beauty.
What I particularly like about this work is that even though it is a still life I get a zest for life from it. The red background also contributes to this. The red on red makes the image extra intense.
The combination of the red colors and the bright light in the petal make words like passion and romance come to mind. And the coarse texture and rough sweep of the brush make the image wilder and rougher in a subtle way.
Moreover, I find the shape of the flower very feminine. It reminds me of a seductive dress which invites to an evening full of passion.
