Freudenberg is an enchanting place in western Germany in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, taking you back in time and a must-see for any lover of architecture and history. Each alley offers a unique vista for beautiful, detailed photos's.
The photo shows the iconic view that has made Freudenberg world-famous in Germany. From the Kurpark, you look down on the "Alter Flecken" a perfectly preserved ensemble of the 17th-century with more than 80 identical half-timbered houses.
The sleek, architectural beauty of the black-and-white facades and dark slate roofs makes for a stunning view. The houses are close together, all with their gables facing the street, making for a dramatic and almost picturesque "giggle parade". In autumn, the magic really comes alive. The city centre is embraced by a carpet of warm autumn colours on the rolling hills in the background. The little white church with its domed tower rises above the sea of roofs.
Freudenberg is part of Siegerland in the Siegen-Wittgenstein region. It is not far from the larger city of Siegen. It is also relatively close to cities like Cologne and Bonn, but lies deep in the rolling, forested landscape of the Sauerland-Siegerland. In short, Freudenberg is a pearl in the hilly, wooded region of western Germany, known for its nature and unique historical centre.
