On Lake Misurina stands the iconic institute Pio XII for care and rehabilitation of children with asthma. This is the only institute in Italy and closed permanently in December 2022.
Lake Misurina, Lago di Misurina is a lake in the Italian province of Belluno at the foot of the Cadini di Misurina mountain range. It is the largest natural lake in the Cadore region. The lake's water level is 1754 metres above sea level.
Along its south-western shore lies the town of Misurina (municipality of Auronzo di Cadore), which boasts a dozen hotels that together can accommodate about'500 guests. During summer the lake is used for swimming and water cycling. In winter, the surface freezes over completely and is used for skating. During the 1956 Winter Olympics, skating competitions were held on this lake.
The lake and its surroundings are known for their healthy air. Consequently, near the lake is the only Italian asthma centre.
