The volcano's rusty brown tones make the crater appear optically shallow. Miniature, almost. But with the knowledge that the trek to the top is a two-hour hike, one understands how deep the bottom lies. The sunlight and clouds played a mysterious game with many rocks and the coarse lava sand. As relaxing as the photo can be, the volcano can be brutal when it wakes up.
