About the artwork
On Iceland's rugged southern coast, where the surf never rests, the mythical rock pillars of Reynisdrangar tower from the sea. From the remote beach of Kirkjufjara, they catch the first and last light of the day, shrouded in mists of splashing foam.
At this spot, where the elements rule untamed, I set up my tripod in the pitch-black sand. The ocean pounded against the shore, its force an endless rhythm of buildup and decay. With a slower shutter speed, I caught the play of water and stone-the waves breaking up in a tempestuous dance, blurred into a silky veil around the jagged rock points.
Suddenly a wave swelled, bigger and wilder than the rest. In a split second, I felt the splashes on my skin, an unexpected twist in this battle between land and sea. But precisely that unpredictable moment gave this photo its soul-nature allowing itself to be captured on its own terms.
This image is more than a landscape; it is a tribute to the indomitable power of the Icelandic coast. A reminder of the place where water and basalt meet in an eternal battle, and where the wind whispers stories that have lasted for centuries.
